A campaign to encourage more Essex people who go that extra mile to be nominated for the Queen’s Honours awards was launched by Lord Petre, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, in 2008.
The Do The Honours for Essex campaign aims to encourage nominations for those people who make a real difference to the community, whether it is in their field of work, through their interests or pursuits or on a local level.
An honour recognises the achievements of ordinary people who do extraordinary things.
Anyone can make a nomination for a wide range of awards. These include awards for groups as well as for individuals.
Each nomination will need at least two letters of support for the candidate. Most nominations have several letters of support. See below for notes on the process.
Information on how to make nominations is available through the links to the honours section of the www.direct.gov.uk website. This website carries guidance and forms for making nominations.
Forms are also available from: Ceremonial Secretariat, Ground Floor, Admiralty Arch, London SW1A 2WH, email, ceremonial@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk
The honours lists are issued twice a year - at New Year and on the Queen's official birthday in mid-June.
The message from Lord Petre is: “If you know someone who has made a significant difference in their field of work or in their community or who has achieved great things against all the odds, then you may be able to say thank you and Do The Honours for Essex.”
