During the past 25 years Barry Donovan from Colchester estimates that he’s helped raise more than £1 million for good causes.
Barry, 68, has been a leading figure in 14 fund-raising organisations. HIs commitment was recognised when he was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
He was among guests at a special reception in Colchester as part of the campaign to encourage more nominations for honours to be made for Essex people who make a significant contribution to the community. Other guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester Cllr Henry and Mrs Vivien Spyvee and Lord Newton of Braintree OBE, chairman of the Community, Voluntary and Local Services Honours committee.
